The idea of the project belongs to a team of volunteers who took care of the de-occupied villages of Chernihiv region in the spring. Traveling to Lukashivka, the volunteers found true friends among local children. Having survived the horrors of war at such an early age, the kids still radiate a special light and love for the world, and you want to document such things. That's how the idea for the project was born: all the kids who wanted to participate received a disposable film camera and a week to shoot whatever they wanted.
"The resulting photos are something we need now. On the one hand, we have unique material, a view of the war and its consequences through the eyes of the future. On the other hand, we have a chance to personally understand something important: about ourselves, about our childhood, about the connection between the two, about war and death, about life and the future. Everyone awakens their own thoughts, and we should thank the children for that," says Artem, one of the project's creators.
Creativity is a powerful tool for achieving dreams and desires that this war has no right to take away from children. That's why, along with the cameras, the volunteers received short wish lists from each young reporter. The charitable component of the project is that society can reward children according to the wish lists they have compiled. The Behind Blue Eyes Instagram page publishes the wishes of each participant - you can donate both money and directly give the item (and sometimes a pet) from the list.
The team sees the project's development in working with children in all affected regions of Ukraine. In this way, a holistic imprint of the terrible events will be created from an unprecedented angle.
