Volunteer translator for an international project

This volunteer opportunity involves helping people communicate clearly by interpreting languages during various meetings, calls, or video conferences. You will help by translating conversations or written materials, ensuring everyone understands the information accurately. Your role is important for building bridges between different languages and cultures to help programs run smoothly. You'll need to respect confidentiality, stay neutral, and treat everyone with respect and kindness. The project welcomes interpreters of any language, especially those who know Arabic, Haitian Creole, Amharic, and Mandarin.
Facilitate accurate communication between participants by interpreting their words during in-person meetings, phone calls, or video calls;
Translate necessary documents and handouts upon request;
Interpret into the participant’s language without adding or omitting information, using first-person pronouns and staying engaged throughout;
Maintain confidentiality of all conversations and follow established rules regarding the storage or disposal of written notes;
Remain objective and neutral, respecting all participants regardless of their background or beliefs;
Be mindful of cultural differences and respect participants’ preferred pronouns;
Inform the supervisor of any difficulties in understanding or conflicts that arise during interpretation;
Adhere to Project HOPE’s Code of Conduct and policies, and participate in required training;
Be prepared to undergo quality assessment of interpretation work.
Volunteer schedule is flexible, with the option to participate in projects as needed;
Work can be done remotely via phone or video calls, or in person, depending on the situation;
Basic requirements include fluency in a second language such as Arabic, Creole, Amharic, or Mandarin;
Minimum age: 21 years old;
Ability to work with diverse populations is essential;
